Local Business Networking & Events

There are so many business related events in my area, that I am often left unsure which of the events-- I cannot afford to miss. One such event, A Woman in Business-- 2nd Annual Business Expo being held in Laurel this year [November 1st].

I recently spoke with Erica Brooks, one of the organizers-- and added her profile to ProfessionalProfiles-- here.

Of course the internet provides a lot of opportunities for promotion [like ProfessionalProfiles] and networking, however face to face networking is also a priceless asset for many business owners and entrepreneurs.

Alexa running Adsense ads?

This is the first time I have noticed Alexa [an Amazon service] running Google Adsense ads [see lower left corner].



Why does this look so odd to me?

1800 Flowers-- I loved your ads

Today, I received notification that my 1800-Flowers affiliation has been temporarily suspended. Since I have never sold anything-- [though it bothered me a little-- I like the ad], I continued to enjoy my afternoon sitting beneath a Panera Bread umbrella. My office away from the office.

I am in the process of removing the 1800-Flowerslinks from WiredPages. I wanted to provide this public notification because I was a little concerned with the originating address of the email sent by the affiliate program.

I happened to see the CEO of 1800-Flowers on television earlier in the day and since I have asked Federal authorities to investigate fraud questions want to insure everyone is on the same page.

I had an email-- both an internal [within the Linkshare management program] and external emails from 1800-Flowers earlier in the month [August 4, 2008] related to a new search policy and thought it strange I did not have an official internal notification concerning the temporary suspension [their words] of our affiliation agreement.

At this time, I am not interested in writing programs [automated ad generation using web services] and promoting WiredPages more than I currently expend in this area-- so I believe this temporary suspension will become permanent.

I am always surprised when it appears someone thinks it is my privilege to place their ads for free on my sites. I do not promote WiredPages as much as other areas of my sites and services, however it is my favorite area of all my sites. It is my pride and joy. I have had many ask to be listed on WiredPages. Surprisingly, Q's Wire also. At this point-- this is about DOJ and the question of fraud.

I have never had any sales from WiredPages nor Q's Wire when I have placed the 1800-Flowers ads in these areas. I do not mind the no sales. I was having a hard time with the impression counts.

As I stated-- this is only to ensure everyone is on the same page.

The sports scores widget on the WiredPages Sports [lower] page has been updated to include WNBA scores.

The illustration below shows today's scores as rendered by the widget on WiredPages--



The WNBA season runs from May thru September and I am sorry for this oversight.

Ordered Business Cards

Yesterday, I ordered new business cards. What do you think?



I know, the look is entirely different from any of the looks on my sites however, I have decided being a little eclectic is okay these days.

For those of you who read Q's Wire, you may be asking-- Regina ordered business cards? I have kind of given up on carrying business cards because I never get business communiqués. I believe I have communications interference and therefore pointless for me to carry business cards. Instead I carry an invoice book and my MacBook. I do not think everyone is in my situation and if you are in business, it is always good to have your business card handy. One reason for me to carry a card? Provides my site[s] urls.

I recently read that a good going green antidote is to reuse old business cards. Simply scratch out the old information and insert the new. I had a lot of old Rockwell business cards that I have passed out using this technique. Still no calls.
