Pagerank & Advertising Observations -- Code Links?
Of late, observations about pagerank, advertising and blogging have been discussed in a lot detail and I am sure my recent observations have already been noted-- however, I thought I would recount them anyway.
I have been an affiliate for a certain online retailer for a long time. The ads run mostly on WiredPages however, I have been known to place an ad or two on my personal blog, Q's Wire.
Recently, one of the blog advertising services that I write for had an opportunity for the affiliate. I have never made any money through the affiliate ads, however did off the blog post I submitted.
The irony? I can place ad after ad using affiliate links on the sidebars of the blog and my pagerank is unaffected. My sidebars remain the constant on the blog. I place a link within a post and my pagerank drops to zero. This is not entirely true, because Q's Wire seems to have a hidden pagerank-- [the pragerank is still being reported at its previous level].
I bet you want to say-- most affiliate links have some sort of coded link and does not pass the publisher's pagerank to the advertising site. Okay, that maybe true but what about blog directories and other sidebar links?
Do you think blog advertising services should use more coded links too? What about sidebar links that are paid links but that do not use coded links? They are not affecting PR.
