How To Avoid Chat Room Booting...

I consider chat rooms to be an important networking tool. They enable me to get real time feedback in areas that I am interested in. I have chat room identities that are business like and others that are more social in nature. One of my chat room identities is WiredPages on the Yahoo! network. It is more of a social identity. What do I mean by social? I may go into the Darkroom or Books and Literature chat rooms to discuss books, cameras, or other hobbies I enjoy. I am never looking for a date in a chat room. Over the last two months I have had problems trying to keep this account active. The first time the account was rendered inactive -- I had no idea why. This time I know it was because I did not respond to an IM issued by a fellow chat room participate (in this case it was not a bot).

In the past I have used an illegal chat room client on the Macintosh platform. The client -- "Chit Chat" uses a term that Yahoo programmers have keyed on to show likely users of this illegal client. The key word -- "Smilie". I was booted several times for this infraction. The other problem is the number of IM's I receive, which I never respond to. Most of these IM's are from females with CAMs (bots in most cases). Every once in a while a male has a CAM. Yahoo! has a policy that you must be careful when promoting your businesses in their chat rooms. I never promote business, which in my case is computer software. I find it a bit ironic that I was booted because females with CAMs have prevented me from responding to most IMs, although their are also quite a few men who seem to want dates, yet it is me who is booted. My chat clients are the Yahoo! supplied Java chat clients which show the IMs as part of the chat room chatter. I do respond inline but never to the personal invite. I normally, say "I only respond in the room".

My latest email (lower) to Yahoo! and their response (upper) on this subject:

I know that I am not the only person booted. There are two ways that Yahoo! isolates potential "booties..." (1) key words that programs pick up and (2) mystery chatters. A mystery chatter with an IM was my latest disabler. Good luck if you also use chat rooms...

I'm here to say that I've been booted several times from Yahoo
Chat rooms when I wasn't doing a darn thing to bother anyone. If I want to sit there and just watch conversation or let people view my cam (on which I remain clothed) without talking to them - that's my business. These are public rooms - not private. The last couple times I've been booted my log file has been damaged. Mess with anything BUT my computer.

Think about this. People that Boot others from (Chat) have really Fuc*-Up a good thing. Here we “HAD” a Tool (Chat) were we can talk to people from around the world for Free, and shear Ideas. Now most people that has anything important to “Talk about” are gone and not coming back because of getting booted . So now we are stuck with “Kids” booting each others Ass, in a chat – room. Maybe yahoo should start charging about $500.00 per year for chat, with a 3 year min. contract ??

Yup, all of it is lame....but there are many ways of preventing booters and enjoying your chat experience. First, there are 8-9 different chat clients that affiliate themselves with yahoo chatrooms. They act exactly the same as messenger, just a different format. For an example, Google these clients and u can download them directly for free...Yahelite, Cheetah, Yaheh, Yahzak, YChat and a few more. No chat client is unbootable but these ones give u a lot more protection against the terrors. Another program called YTunnel that acts as a shield for messenger can also be used. But dont pay for it, its not worth the trouble. Its very weak against booting and is probably used best if u just want to ignore bots etc. Last but not least...if u cant be bothered with any of this, shut your pm's off. Whenever u want to talk to a friend just open the pm that way they can type to u. And if that didnt help omg nothing will lol.

Why people boot other people is beyond me.chat clients and messengers give you the option to iggy anyone you don't want to talk to or be bothered by.However someone always finds a way around the programs just to bother everyone else maybe the best defence is a java based chat client or messenger,I really don't know. All I know is that I am a victim of any person with any computer programing language savy.charging people to chat dosen't make since, people will still get booted by anyone that has any knowledge of programing, and you'll be basicly paying for a service that dosen't protect you. It's money driven, power hungry world we live in and all we can do is hope that we are not the target of somebodys money driven, power hungry ways.Like Microsoft has come up with a program that will evenually tell if your copy of windows XP is genuine and if not, force you to buy it at $199.00 on their website.Bill Gates is a good example of a greedy money driven person. Then some hacker will find a way around it an example of a power driven person thats out to down the rich in anyway possible and I can't say I blame that hacker.I only wish I had the knowlege that hacker has cause I to would find a way to protect myself from the high cost of programs from the money driven greedy rich.Booters are power driven people that feel they have the power over everyone else in a chat room but they misuse that power for fun and a lot of them get their boot programs or codes from hackers so thank god for the hackers that are out to do good for the computer dummys and to hell with the hackers that are out to cause havoc for those same people.
